SDN Course Classroom Etiquette
In Brief
- Be considerate.
- The instructor greatly appreciates those attendees who keep their videos on - it makes the course better for all.
- Participate and put in the effort.
Tell us now if you don’t want to share your screen and answer questions in front of the class
The instructor will occasionally ask you to share your screen, repeat a few small tasks, and possibly answer a few questions.
- This helps the class - they see the task demoed and explained by two different people.
- This helps the instructor to know if they need to do something different.
- This helps you - explaining something to someone else is a great way to learn and understand it better yourself. It also a a must-have skill as we work more with AI assistants.
However, If you don’t want to participate in this way, please let the instructor know now. (You can do this in the chat window if you prefer.)
Be considerate of other attendees
- You must be able to use Teams proficiently: share the screen without undue delay and speak clearly without background noise.
- Decide whether to use the AI or not. If you do use it, use it actively and honestly.
When sharing your screen
- Unmute immediately, say “hello”.
- Maximise your screen.
- Zoom in so font is comfortably readable. Hint: In a browser, use the three dots … to the right of the browser address bar (or Ctrl=, Ctrl-)
- Explain in your own words (and do not simply repeat what you see on screen).
Check that the course is right for you
- Only apply for a course if you meet all the pre-requisites and have completed the pre-course questionnaires.
- Only apply for an intermediate course once you have completed the foundation course (or you have read the course outline and are sure that you have equivalent knowledge)
- Only apply for an advanced course once you have completed the intermediate course (or you have read the course outline and are sure that you have equivalent knowledge)
Before the course
- Read and follow the course joining instructions well before the course. This may involve some work on your part, for example, arrange for up-to-date course software to be installed on your PC. This is essential. Do this well before the day of the course.
- Check that you will be able to share your screen during the course. We highly recommend having two screens connected to the same PC.
- Do not use two PCs - this often causes problems for the entire class hearing audio feedback and echo which makes conversation impossible.
- Check that your microphone works. If you cannot speak, you cannot join the course.
Arrive on time
Please make sure you join the course at 9:15am to have enough time to check if everything is working and a prompt start at 9:30am.
Delegates arriving after 9:30am are very likely to be asked to leave the course, especially if they have not followed the “before the course” instructions above.
