Survey Data
Survey data in a particular form of data that requires special consideration. Often, respondents to a survey are asked multiple-choice questions on an ordinal scale with answer options such as:
- Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, Strongly Disagree
- Boring, Dull, Neutral, Interesting, Fascinating
- a 10 point scale where 1 is very poor and 10 is excellent.
There are few options to analyse this data
- count the number of response for each category and visualise the distribution
- assign a numerical value to the ordinal categories, for example on a Likert scale. It’s important to remember assigning numbers to such categories is a matter of judgement and therefore the numerical results of this analysis are not ‘concrete’ numbers in the same way as say, numbers that relate to revenues and costs.
