Modern Data Modelling Setup - Initial Tasks

Here are some tasks so that we can progress smoothly once we start installing and configuring the tools.

Create a course folder

Create a folder for the course. Call it ‘Modern Data Model Course’ or similar. We will put any files that we download or create in this folder.

Sign up for a free GitHub account

GitHub Copilot is an AI assistant (large language model). When you create a free account with GitHub, you will get a certain monthly quota of requests free of charge - more than enough for this course. We will use GitHub Copilot to send natural language instructions to the Power BI Modeling MCP server to review and directly improve a data model.

If you already have a GitHub account, you can of course use that account.

To sign up a free account, in a browser, go to github.com, click on the “Sign Up” button, and follow the instructions.

Sign up for a free Claude account

Go to claude.ai and sign up for a free Claude account.

If you already have a Claude account, you can of course use that account.
