None. This is a beginner course.

Course Content

Power Query is Microsoft’s most popular tool for connecting to, cleaning and shaping data. It provides an intuitive user interface to transform data in step-by-step fashion so that it is ready for analysis and visualisation. Power Query is not a separate product but is a component of both Power BI and Excel.

The course will cover how to:

• launch Power Query from within Power BI
• launch Power Query from within Excel
• connect to data sources in various formats, such as text files, Excel files and database tables
• clean these datasets, for example, remove rows or columns, pivot the data, split columns
• add new columns to extend the data
• merge or append two datasets

We will also look how how to use generative AI tools such as ChatGPT to help us with Power Query challenges.

Technical pre-requisites

Since Power Query is a component of both Power BI and Excel, attendees will need to have Power BI Desktop or Excel 365 (and preferably both) installed on their PC.
