R Foundation Course

Who should attend

R is a popular open-source language for data analysis and data science. This is a foundation course in R suitable for beginners amd aimed at people who want to understand if R could be useful in their work.

Either 1 day (short course) or preferably 2 days (full course)

Learning Objectives

You will get a taste for R and what it can do. You will become comfortable using R to clean, shape, analyse and visualise data

Pre-requisites

None. This is a beginner level course.

Course Content

The course covers:

get started in R, with an introduction to RStudio (a popular integrated development environment for R)
import data from CSV, Excel and from the web
work with data frames, lists and vectors - the three important data structures in R
clean and shape data
analyse data
visualise data and build charts
an introduction to the R Markdown format for writing documents that include both text and code
an introduction to data science (prediction, machine learning, AI) with R (in the full 2-day course)

The course focuses on the modern R packages for data science such as the tidyverse collection of packages. The tidyverse includes packages the manipulation (dplyr), tidying (tidyr) and visualisation (ggplot2) of data.
