Setup Power BI for Modern Data Modelling with AI help

Description

This event is for attendees of the in-person course on Modern Data Modelling with Power BI on 27th April 2026 but anyone is welcome - many people have trouble setting up Power BI Desktop. This will be a hands-on guided tutorial through all the steps below. We will:

• Download and install Power BI Desktop (PBID) either from Microsoft Store or from the Power BI website.
• Test that PBID works with a pre-built Power BI report/data file.
• Sign into Power BI online and test that we can build a data model and report online.
• Sign into ChatGPT with a free account.
• Install Claude Desktop.
• Install the Power BI Model Context Protocol (MCP) server.
• Connect Claude to the Power BI MCP server and test that it can see our Power BI model.
